5 String Banjo Workshop
“John Hartford Style”

Bluegrass pickers looking for something a little different will love this unique workshop! Colin offers expertise in the banjo style of the late John Hartford. Topics covered will be “playing the words” using rolls, and John’s unique take on both hammer ons/pull offs and chromatic runs. Written music (Tabulature) of all material will be provided. Recording devices are encouraged!

Note to festival presenters: Workshop attendance increases if the workshop is presented after audiences see Colin’s stage show.

Foot Percussion Workshop
“Featuring Feet”

This unique workshop is Colin’s most popular. It is open to everyone, regardless of whether or not you even play an instrument! Featuring Feet starts by demystifying the legendary John Hartford’s dance step. A masterful teacher, Colin has distilled the elements of John’s dance technique and presents them sequentially in three simple steps. His teaching style is concise, relaxed and often humorous.

Other topics include dancing waltz and jig rhythms, creating “four on the floor” beats, building and amplifying a footboard, and using EQ and effects.

Note to festival presenters: Enrollment in the foot is workshop is always strong, but experience has taught us that attendance increases if the workshop is presented after audiences see Colin’s stage show.
